On May 27, 8-year-old Logan Cole had the opportunity to participate in the Aquafina Pitch, Hit and Run Team Championship Competition at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Cole plays softball in the Continental Ranch Little League, where she has been competing for the last two years.

In the weekend competition, Cole had a chance to qualify for the National Finals where participants will compete on field before attending the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Kansas City.

Last month, Cole participated in the local Little League Pitch, Hit and Run competition where she was the all around pitching, hitting and running champion in her age and gender group. She qualified to advance to the Sectional Competition in Casa Grande.

There, Cole had one of the top three scores in her gender and age group, and advanced to Arizona’s Team Championship.

“She’s very athletic,” said Jason Cole, Logan’s dad. “She plays all the sports.”

In addition to her participation in Little League, Logan plays soccer and volleyball.

The Team Championships are held in all 30 Major League ballparks. Participants must place first in their age group in order to be eligible to advance and the top three scores in each gender and age group out of all 30 MLB Team Championship competitions will advance to the National Finals.

The Pitch portion of the competitions tests the accuracy with which participants can throw strike to a designated “Strike Zone” target from 35 feet.

During the hitting portion of the program, competitors are tested on their ability to hit from a batting tee, along a tape measure from home plate toward centerfield. Hits are measured for distance and accuracy.

The run part of the competition measures a participant’s speed in a sprint from the start line, touching third base and touching home plate.

Participants like Cole, in the girls’ softball division run a total of 120 feet.

After the day-long competition, Cole finished second place in her division.
