It’s hoops time.

Teams from Southern Arizona and metropolitan Phoenix are competing in the second annual Hardwood Fall Classic boys basketball tournament, with games played at Ironwood Ridge High School.

Pool play for the eight greater Tucson schools is Monday through Wednesday at The Ridge. Dobson High School, the defending tournament champion, is hosting Phoenix teams. Pool play determines bracket seeding for the semifinal and championship rounds, to be played Friday, Nov. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 27 at IRHS.

“This tournament offers a select group of Southern Arizona high school basketball programs the opportunity to square off with key programs out of the Phoenix area in some early-season competition,” said Brian Peabody, tournament director and IRHS head coach. “Even though many of these schools will be playing their first games of the 2010-2011 season, I still expect to see a high level of play.”

Participating teams are Ironwood Ridge, Catalina Foothills, Cesar Chavez, Dobson, Cholla, Catalina, Camelback, Maryvale, Nogales, Sahuaro, Coronado, Millennium, Flowing Wells, Sunnyside, Poston Butte and Seton Catholic.

Game results and complete bracket updates from each day of tournament play will be posted online at
