In last week’s edition of the Explorer News we ran a story on former Pusch Ridge baseball player Aaron Vaughn who had signed a free agent deal with the Houston Astros organization and was playing for their Rookie Ball affiliate in the Gulf Coast League. One of the themes of the story was that it was a long road to the majors but through hard work and good performances, it was possible to rise through the ranks. Vaughn made the first steps last week.
Vaughn was promoted to Houston’s Single-A affiliate in Quad Cities, IA. This is a key move for Vaughn as promotion is no guarantee at any levels of minor league baseball.
Vaughn made his debut on July 16, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out two.
In seven games in the GCL Vaughn was 0-1, but boasted a 2.89 ERA, help opponents to just a .206 batting average and struck out six batters in 9 1/3 innings.
Vaughn was a 2010 graduate of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and played collegiately at Northwest Nazarene.
