The Tucson Toros baseball team is preparing to open its Golden League season, and The Batter's Box baseball and softball facility is holding a meet and greet with Tuffy the Toro on Sunday, May 17.

Guests can have a picture taken with Tuffy, and purchase discounted tickets for "Fireworks Friday" Toros games.

Tuffy plans to be on hand from 1 to 4 p.m. that Sunday.

The Batter's Box is the newest indoor facility to "hit" the Northwest, offering six pitching machines and more for baseball and softball players at its 14,000-square-foot location at 6800 N. Camino Martin, south of Ina close to I-10.

Owner Thoby Vieux said there are multiple baseball and softball cages at a variety of speeds, stationary hitting facilities and full-sized pitching and catching bullpens. The Batter's Box offers rate options, group and individual lessons with coaches who have collegiate and professional experience.

The Batter's Box is now serving the Thornydale, Continental Ranch, Marana, CDO and Canyon View Little Leagues, and it's close to four high schools, 10 junior high schools and several elementary schools.

Mr. Tee's Silkscreen and Shirt Design, inside The Batter's Box, offers uniforms and personalized t-shirts and hats.
