The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (6-9, 1-6 in conference) couldn’t hold on to its lead and had to fight to keep the game close against Scottsdale Community College on Wednesday. It fell short in its 65-63 lost at the West Campus.

The Aztecs led the entire first half and took a 35-24 lead at halftime but Scottsdale outscored the Aztecs 20-7 in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take a 44-42 lead. Pima would trail by nine later in the half but Terrance Carroll (Cordova HS, TN) scored seven straight points for the Aztecs to cut the Scottsdale lead to 56-54. With time winding down, Carroll missed a three-pointer and Orlando Lopez (Kofa HS) missed a jumper to end the game.

Carroll finished with a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds. Kevin Burton (Apollo HS) had 14 points and Lawrence Pierce (Peoria HS) added 10 points and five rebounds.

The Aztecs will travel to South Mountain Community College on Saturday. The game will be at 4 p.m.
