PCC Softball Gets Swept at Central Arizona


 The Pima Community College softball team (15-7, 10-6 in conference) dropped two games on Tuesday at Central Arizona College. The Aztecs had leads in both games.

The Aztecs took a 3-0 lead after the top of the 3rd inning but Central came back to win 4-3. Cynthia Pelayo (Vision HS) finished 1 for 4 with an RBI, a run scored and a double. Shawna Comeaux (Sabino HS) hit a 2-run RBI double as part of that 3rd inning. Central scored three runs of its own in the bottom of the 3rd and added a run in the 4th. Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) took the loss which dropped her to 7-5 on the year. She gave up three earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks.

The Aztecs took the early lead once again in the second game but lost in the end 4-3. Alvarez and Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) had RBIs in the 3rd inning to put the Aztecs up 2-0. The Aztecs were up 3-1 after Ortiz collected her second RBI of the game. In the bottom of the 5th Central scored three runs to take the lead for good. Stephanie Vejar (Tucson Magnet HS) pitched 4 and two-third innings giving up four runs off nine hits and two strikeouts. She fell to 7-2 on the season. Pelayo went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two doubles. Alvarez was 2 for 2 with a run scored, an RBI, a walk and a double.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Saturday when they host a doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College. The first game will start at noon.
