PCC Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller


The Pima Community College volleyball team (4-3, 2-1 in conference) won its second straight five-set match on Wednesday after holding off Phoenix College at the West Campus 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 23-25, 15-11.

The Aztecs never trailed in the first game and Noelle Olson’s (Florence HS) ace secured the game. In the second game, Andrea Burnett’s (Marana Mountain View HS) ace and Nykole Adun’s (Catalina HS) block helped Pima finish the game with five straight game-points. In the fifth game, the Aztecs trailed for much of it before tying it on two occasions. They took a 12-11 lead and did not give up another game-point.

Kristen Hains (Marana Mountain View HS) led the Aztecs with 19 kills while Alexis Ammerman (Tucson Magnet HS) finished with nine kills and four blocks. Olson had 23 assists and four aces and Liz Mata (Flowing Wells HS) had 12 assists. Courtney Pitts (Catalina HS) finished the match with 33 digs.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Friday when they host Glendale Community College at 7 p.m.
