A Catalina Foothills High School graduate was recently hired as the women's head softball coach for Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.

Last week, Kelly Higgins, the athletic director for Fort Lewis College, announced that Kira Zeiter would take charge of the team.

"We are extremely excited to bring Kira on board at FLC," Higgins said. "She has proven to be an excellent coach within the RMAC (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) helping to lead Adams State to two RMAC West titles in the last three years. She has all of the qualities we were looking for in our next coach, both on and off the field. Kira will a great addition to our staff."

Zeiter joins Fort Lewis after spending the past three seasons as the assistant softball coach at Adams State College, in Alamosa, Colo. There, she was responsible for coaching hitting and outfielders, off-campus recruiting, scouting opponents, summer camps and day-to-day operations.

Zieter graduated from Catalina Foothills in 2003, where she was the team's MVP as a senior. She also helped take the team to a Kino Conference Championship and a third place finish at the Arizona State Tournament.
