Athlete of the week
Jared Tevis

Canyon Del Oro senior defensive back Jared Tevis had a simple description of his feelings after last Friday's 44-0 win over Scottsdale Saguaro at home.

"It's satisfying," said Tevis with a smile. "Really satisfying."

The performance of Tevis, who returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown late in the first half and had another interception-for-touchdown called back by a holding penalty, has been equally satisfying to Dorado head coach Dusty Peace.

"We ask him to do so much," said Peace. "He's physical, and he's a leader out there."

He certainly is.

Tevis leads the Dorados in total tackles with 56 on the season, averaging 11.2 per game, and is tied for second with three sacks on the year. But his focus is on his team, not his own statistics.

"I love our defense," said Tevis after the Saguaro game. "We came out and played crisp; every guy played his role perfectly."

Tevis is looking for more of the same when CDO takes on rival Catalina Foothills this Friday.

"We can do anything," said Tevis. "We just have to keep our minds straight."

No matter what happens over the rest of the season, Tevis said he's excited to keep playing alongside his teammates.

"We're a family here," said Tevis. "I couldn't ask for a better family than this."
