Manny Ramirez

Fox Sports:

The Texas Rangers don’t plan to promote DH Manny Ramirez to their major league roster in the near future, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Some sports icons were on top of the world until they lost respect with these epic falls from grace.

Ramirez, 41, signed a minor league contract with the organization earlier this month after playing two months for a team in Chinese Professional Baseball League.

But in 16 games for Triple-A Round Rock, Ramirez is hitting just .250/.318/.417 with three homers and nine RBIs.

"This isn't Manny Ramirez," a scout told Yahoo! Sports. "This is a 41-year-old still trying to play baseball and not doing it very well."

Ramirez hasn’t had a major league at-bat since April 6, 2011, with the Tampa Bay Rays. Soon after that game, he announced his retirement upon being notified that he had failed a second test for a banned substance and was facing a 100-game suspension. Ramirez announced his intention to return prior to the 2012 season and signed a minor league deal with the Oakland A’s, who released him in mid-June before ever promoting him past Triple-A.
