Catalina Community Services

Today more than 17% of Pima County families are living below the poverty line and often children from these families go to school without the necessary supplies to contribute and actively participate in their classes. Education is the best means for these children to rise above poverty and break the cycle, but receiving an education requires having tools that allow for meaningful participation in the learning process.

Each year Catalina Community Services provides hundreds of client family members with back packs filled with supplies, and new and gently used clothing. The school packs vary by grade level in order to best suit the needs of children in that grade. For example, children in grades K-3 receive writing tablets, pencils, crayons, erasers, pocket folders, and a pencil sharpener in their school packs.  The items in the school packs are based on school district requirements.

The distribution of our school packs to our clients will be early August, along with youngsters receiving new clothing items.
