The Seventh Annual Harvest for Hope 5k non-competitive walk/run event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. The event will take place at the path adjacent to the Oro Valley Marketplace.
This event is unique in that there is no entry fee to participate. Walkers/runners need only bring a bag of non-perishable food which will be donated to the food bank at Catalina Community Services. Over the past six years, Harvest for Hope has raised nearly 20,000 pounds of food for CCS to distribute to families in need.
Event organizer Dawn Kulesa of Lifestyle and Fitness Coaching says, “This event raises awareness of the hunger issues that face many families in northern Pima County. Oro Valley is a prosperous community and you don’t think we have hunger concerns here, but we do. This event will not only feed the hungry but also provides a venue in which the community can come together on a beautiful fall evening and have fun with their family and neighbors. Immediately following the 5k will be a raffle with a variety of prizes. Every runner/walker will automatically be entered into the drawing.”
Corporate partners include, John Corbett, owner of the All About Running and Walking store, and Oro Valley Hospital’s Commit to Be Fit program. Corbett says, “We would like to double the amount of donated food this year and have at least 500 people par- ticipate in the event.”
The first 500 walkers/runners to register will receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal. To register visit www.harvest4hope.org or pick up an entry form at the All About Running and Walking store in the Rancho Vistoso Safeway Plaza. You may also register at the event.
