I was stunned to read the letter last week that extolled the wonderful accomplishments of the three council members up for re-election and the mayor. The writer must have been out of town a great deal.
These council members are the ones that balanced the budget off the backs of the taxpayers. They increased the utility tax by two percent and made it permanent. In my case that adds about $100 a year to the $100 in utility tax that was already on the books. One of these same “wonderful” council members pay his/her memberships to other organizations with town funds; one councilman charges 65 cents per mile for everywhere he drives that he thinks relates to the town. He also enjoys free meals around town because of his perceived importance. Apparently their salaries as public servants just aren’t enough.
Then we have a mayor who tears up reports that took time and effort to prepare in front of a council meeting. He did this to humiliate one of the members he dislikes for daring to ask questions about town expenditures.
And you thought all the corruption and poor behavior was in Washington, D.C. Do you want them all back? It’s too bad more candidates aren’t available to replace all of them.
