As just one of the hundreds of volunteers helping Oro Valley being recognized as a community that welcomes families, I was reminded and saddened by the facts laid out by a retrospect-like presentation on SAACA’s (Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance) past, current and future events, festivals and programs.

A funding by municipality by population report noted 16 communities whose Arts & Culture expenditures per citizen ranged from $0.28 to $20.31. The latter is Scottsdale and the former is Oro Valley with the lowest budgeted contribution. Our community will never be a Scottsdale nor does it need to be. But, Yuma’s $7.12 per citizen should be attainable.
