Police identified the doctor killed and one of the women injured in a shooting inside a Nevada medical office Tuesday, but the gunman's identity was not released.
The Reno Police Department said in a news conference on Wednesday that Dr. Charles Garo Gholdoian, 46, was shot and killed in the Center for Advanced Medicine at the Renown Medical Center in Reno on Tuesday.
Shawntae Spears, 20, was identified as one of two women shot and injured during the incident; the other female victim, a doctor, has requested that her name not be released.
The gunman used a 12-gauge shotgun, firing several rounds at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday before shooting and killing himself during the attack, police said. Police believe they have identified the shooter and his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Deputy Chief Tom Robinson said the attack did not appear to be a random event, but the shooter’s motives were still under investigation.
Police added that they have interviewed 29 witnesses so far and were scheduled to meet with more. There were approximately 100 people at the center when the shooting occurred.
