Air raid sirens wailed across Jerusalem Thursday as Palestinian militants continued to fire rockets across Israel, while the country’s military stepped up its offensive against the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
Two plumes of smoke could be seen over the skies of downtown Jerusalem in what Israeli TV stations said was an interception of incoming rockets by Israel's "Iron Dome" rocket-defense system. Local media reported that four rockets were fired in total.
Two booms could be heard in the distance, but it was not clear whether the explosions were incoming rockets or the defense system. No injuries or damage were immediately reported, according to The Associated Press.
