The U.S. Senate this afternoon will vote on bipartisan immigration legislation, headed by the Gang of Eight, a group of four Democrats and four Republicans.

The immigration reform bill will need 60 votes in the Senate before moving forward.

The plan would create a pathway for 11 million illegal immigrants to become legal following a 10-year probationary work period. Citizenship would be granted after the work period has passed and back taxes and fees have been paid, given the applicant does not have a criminal record.

The vote takes place 2:15 p.m. ET.
