North Koria

Kim Jong Un, North Korea's leader

SUB

According to early-morning news reports, North Korea fired three short-range missiles from its east coast on Saturday. The reason for the launch remains unknown at this time.

Launches by the North of short-term missiles are not uncommon, and given the country's work with nuclear missiles and continuous threats over the last year, they aren't a surprise.

During the weeks of high tension, South Korea reported that the North had moved missile launchers into place on its east coast for a possible launch of a medium-range Musudan missile. The Musudan has a range of 3,500 km, putting Japan in range and possibly the U.S. South Pacific island of Guam.
