As early as 2004, Marana leaders began mapping out what “downtown Marana” might look like — a mix of shops, restaurants, offices and open areas designed to bring foot traffic to the city core. Decades ago, the same area of town, between Grier and Barnett roads, had served as a community hub until the expansion of Interstate 10 halted development there.
