Mary Caswell and Bob Milkey have been named “volunteers of the year” for 2010 by the Town of Oro Valley.

They were recognized last Thursday, at the annual volunteer service reception held at the Hilton El Conquistador. More than 200 volunteers, elected officials and staff gathered at the annual celebration, which recognizes the contributions of the more than 400 volunteers who provide services to the town.

Caswell most recently served on the town’s planning and zoning commission. Previously, she served four years on the development and review board.

Mayor Satish Hiremath noted that Caswell’s supporters credited “her commitment to principle and conviction to maintaining high standards throughout her years of service to the town.”

Milkey serves on both the citizen volunteer assistance program for the Oro Valley Police Department with his wife, as well as the water utility commission. He began volunteering with the town as soon as he moved to the community in 2006.

“Bob’s interest and passion in issues regarding water use and conservation have helped address our community’s water needs for the future,” said Philip Saletta, Oro Valley water utility director. “He’s a very smart guy and a great asset to the town.”

Hiremath paid special tribute to Robert DeLaney, a long-time volunteer and member of the parks and recreation advisory board who passed away this past fall. The mayor noted a special tree has been planted in Riverfront Park in DeLaney’s honor.
