A new detachment of the Marine Corps League is forming in Marana.

Members of the Marine Corps League join together in “camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps,” a release said.

The Marine Corps League consists of current Marines and veterans.

It assists wounded Marines and veterans, encourages young Marines, promotes physical fitness, supports the Boy Scouts of America, provides scholarships, participates in legislative issues, operates an auxiliary, backs Toys for Tots in greater Tucson and elsewhere, marches in parades, celebrates American and Marine history, and supports the community, a release said.

Nationally, it has a membership of nearly 61,000 men and women.

Interested Marines may contact Don Lavetter at 3503 W. Red Bird Court, Tucson, 85745. His phone number is 623-7471.
