A group was recently formed in Marana to bring the past into the present.

The Marana Heritage Conservancy aims to preserve historic places and promote the traditions and cultures of yesteryear.

Former town manager Mike Reuwsaat was appointed president and Larry Steckler the secretary.

“I’m concerned about the history of our town,” Steckler said in a press release. “Cotton farming is going and ranching is petering out. I’m intrigued and dedicated to preserving Marana’s history and heritage. To do this we need a private and independent funding source. That’s what I want to see the Marana Heritage Conservancy become.”

The group is in the process of drawing up the proper legal documents to be recognized as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
