On two visits, the Marana Rotary Club has repainted the inner courtyard awning at Thornydale Elementary School, 7751 North Oldfather Road.
The project was part of a community service effort to help the Marana Unified School District with facilities maintenance during severe budget cuts, a release said.
"The Marana Unified School District has suffered unprecedented budget cuts the past two years and the Marana Rotary Club felt obligated to help however we could," said Jane Howell, club president. "This project was a small way to show the students and teachers of MUSD that the Marana community cares about their success."
Along with Marana Rotary Club members, representatives of the Dove Mountain Rotary Club and the Rotaract Club at the University of Arizona did the work. Much of the paint needed to complete the nearly six-hour project was donated by the Marana Lowe's home improvement store. The group first visited Thornydale Elementary on April 10 and returned three weeks later to complete the project.
The Marana Rotary Club is an affiliate of Rotary International, a service organization with more than 1.2 million members worldwide. The club meets every Tuesday at 7 a.m. at Nana's Kitchen, 8225 N. Courtney Page Way, and regularly holds community service events on weekends. For more information, please visit www.maranarotary.org.
