As of last weekend the county elections officials had processed 205,000 requests for early ballots, “an unprecedented volume,” according to Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez.

That figure represents about 41 percent of the county’s 496,903 registered voters.

Early voting for the Nov. 4 election began in earnest earlier this month.

There are two methods for voting early.

First, one can order a ballot mailed to his or her house.

Once completed, simply stuff the ballot in the white affidavit envelope and mail it back to the Recorder’s office.

Voters on the Permanent Early Voting List should automatically receive a ballot in the mail and do not need to request one.

Those still wanting to vote at a polling site can do so at predetermined locations throughout the county.

In the Northwest, early voters can cast ballots at the YMCA, 7770 N. Shannon Road. Signs there point to a modular unit where voting will take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 31.

The site also will open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.

For more information, voters may log onto the Recorder’s office Web site at www.recorder.pima.gov, or call 740-4330.

Of the county’s 496,903 registered voters, about 40 percent (199,533) are registered Democrats.

About 157,793 (31 percent) are Republicans.

There are 135,073 unaffiliated voters in the county.e

In the Eighth Congressional District, which includes the Northwest, Republicans hold the registration advantage, with 129,278 registered Republicans compared to 121,507 registered Democrats, according to county records.

And, in state Legislative District 26, Republicans outnumber Democrats 44,154 to 37,011.
