Another Oro Valley Town Council member has resigned.
On Thursday, Salette Latas notified fellow council members and town officials that she had resigned her position effectively immediately.
"The economic challenges that have affected our Town have also affected me personally," Latas wrote in an e-mail. "My energies need to be focused on my family and on earning a living."
Latas' resignation marks the third council resignation since November. Paula Abbott resigned on Nov. 9, giving little explanation for her departure other than what she called "family circumstances." Councilman Al Kunisch resigned from the council on Feb. 17 to spend more time with his ailing wife Pamela. She died on March 16 after a long battle with cancer.
In her letter of resignation, Latas cited numerous town policies she supported during her two years on the council. She was elected in the primary election in March 2008.
The council has to vote to formally accept Latas' resignation, which it plans to do at the April 7 meeting.
The council intends to hold a closed session on Wednesday, before the April 7 meeting, to discuss how to fill the vacancy, according to a news release. Town code says the council shall appoint a replacement, but does not specify how it should be done.
