Four Marana police officers were honored last week for their work on cases ranging from the capture of a ring of ATM thieves to recovering a stolen vehicle.

Interim Police Chief Terry Tometich presented officers Jason Cann, Randy L. Korth, Daniel Powell and Detective Larry Ybarra with a letter of commendation, as a reminder of their dedication and commitment to their jobs, at a July 9 ceremony.

On June 25, Cann and Powell pulled over an SUV with a broken taillight, only to discover that the vehicle was reported stolen and had nearly $250,000 hidden inside.

Two days earlier, Korth noticed three suspicious individuals while working a graffiti detail.

After questioning the subjects and noticing items in their vehicle, Korth passed information along that led to the arrests of 10 people in connection with a series of ATM and safe thefts.

When Ybarra responded to a report of explosives at a local Walgreens, though, there weren’t any active suspect leads to investigate.

Ybarra posted a flier with the suspects’ picture taken from video surveillance, which was shared with other agencies, leading to felony arrests.

Ybarra also provided information that led to the arrests of the 10 ATM thieves.
