Imagine Greater Tucson, the effort to create a “common vision and action plan” for the Tucson region, holds its next community conversation in Oro Valley next Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Oro Valley Public Library, 1304 N. Naranja Drive. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.

Community conversations “use lively, interactive methods to involve participants in developing shared ideas about the future of the Tucson region and the possibilities for improving the quality of life for us all,” a release said.

“We want to work together to help shape the future of our region,” the release continued. “We can’t do it alone. We need your help, support, and ideas to make the Tucson region a better place to live now and in the future.”

Imagine Greater Tucson brings together citizens, businesses, organizations and regional leaders to talk about the community, its strengths and weaknesses, and what people would most like to change or improve about it.

At a community conversation in Marana during November, participants identified government, leadership, culture, sustainability, climate, desert and mountains as principal themes. They urge “more civil-mindedness,” “leaders with vision,” “less indecision,” less “local government infighting,” and improved traffic flow as needs. Results from community conversations are being compiled as part of Imagine Greater Tucson’s current phase.

Imagine Greater Tucson received $500,000 in seed funding from the Pima Association of Governments, with additional support from the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and a number of other sources.
