Several events during April in Catalina are intended to get Northwest communities “active in preventing drug abuse” by young people.

Town meetings are being held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 3 and again Thursday, April 16 at the Golder Ranch Fire Department facilities on Golder Ranch Road.

Guest speaker is Larry Munguia of the Meth Free Alliance.

A youth rally, with live music and free food, takes place Saturday, April 18, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of First Baptist Church of Catalina, 3505 E. Wilds Road.

Educational booths, tours of the region’s methamphetamine disposal van, and other demonstrations are planned.

That Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 6 p.m., the focus is adults turning in prescriptions that are not being used.

“These medicine cabinets drugs are enabling our youth to become addicted and continue on their journey of life with heroin, meth, etc.,” the release said.
