Four exceptional students attending high schools in the Oro Valley area were awarded Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student scholarships by Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge No. 2815 on May 1.

Madeleine Cooney, a student at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, and Matthew Klass, an Ironwood Ridge High School student currently participating in a foreign exchange program in Italy, received national scholarships valued at $4,000. Alexander Odenkirk from Ironwood Ridge High School and Sabrina Serrano from Canyon del Oro High School were each awarded a $1,200 scholarship.

In addition, Sheila Beeson, Sara Riojas and Taylor K. Steiner each received $500 scholarships from Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge. The program is for students residing in the greater Tucson Metropolitan area who are in need of financial assistance while pursuing higher education or technical training.

The Elks National Foundation recognizes top students across the country based upon their academic achievements, leadership skills, extracurricular activities, and participation in community services.
