Pima County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man suspected of robbing a Northwest area financial institution.

The robbery at Hughes Federal Credit Union, 7970 N. Thornydale, was one of two robberies in the region last week. A U.S. Bank inside the Safeway grocery store at Ina and Oracle was also robbed.

On July 14, deputies received a tip that the suspected Hughes robber, Mark Damon Otero, 37, was staying in a hotel on Miracle Mile in Tucson.

When deputies arrested him, they found evidence in his possession linking him to the July 13 robbery.

Otero was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on charges of robbery and kidnapping.

On July 14, an unidentified man walked up to the counter of the U.S. Bank inside the Safeway at Ina and Oracle roads and demanded money. The man told the teller that he had a bomb. He made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Descriptions of the man put him in his late 30s, skinny and wearing glasses and blue jeans. He also is thought to have a scar on his right knee. The man was carrying a red bandanna and had a white towel wrapped around his head.

Police ask that anyone with information on the robbery call 911 or 88-CRIME.
