Splendido, a resort-style continuing care retirement community in Oro Valley, is putting on its first-ever recipe contest aimed at celebrating Arizona’s active, older adults and their baking talents.

Aging Well Bakes! Is open to individuals 55 and older who want to “share an original baked dessert recipe that brings up fond memories and inspires others to be creative in the kitchen,” a release said.

Splendido plans to feature finalists’ entries on the contest website, www.splendidotucson.com/agingwellbakes, and a grand prize winner will receive a $500 gift certificate to Williams Sonoma.

“Growing older can be a fun, sweet, and positive experience and Splendido is excited to celebrate that through the Aging Well Bakes! recipe contest,” said Mark Blazer, executive director of Splendido. “We are sure that there are thousands of wonderful recipes statewide that have been passed down from generation to generation and we encourage those to be shared in the competition.”

Official rules and instructions are housed at the website, www.splendidotucson.com/agingwellbakes. Submissions are accepted through Feb. 27.

A panel of Arizona’s leading bakers and culinary artists — including Albert DiIeso, Splendido’s executive chef — will recreate the recipes to determine the winning entries, which Splendido will announce on April 12.
