Updated election results show Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords extending her lead over Republican challenger Jesse Kelly.

Giffords holds a 3,055-vote lead over Kelly in the District 8 race. The congresswoman has 127,077 votes to Kelly’s 124,022.

Incumbent Democratic Congressman Raul Grijalva has likely cemented a victory in CD7 over Republican challenger Ruth McClung. Grijalva extended his lead to 5,982 votes over McClung.

Final results in the closest races from Tuesday’s election might not be available until next week.

Pima County Elections Director Brad Nelson said that it wouldn’t be until Nov. 10 that all ballots are verified.

“The reason is that voters who voted a conditional provisional ballot have until 5 p.m. Nov. 9 (to verify their identification),” Nelson told The Explorer on Friday.

Conditional provisional ballots are those cast at polling places on Election Day by voters who did not provide any form of identification, as required under Arizona law. Nelson said 220 such ballots were cast in Pima County.

An additional 13,000 provisional ballots await verification. Those were ballots from voters who showed inadequate identification at the polls.

Nelson said the elections department has 17,000 early ballots left to count. Those should be completed by late Friday or Saturday
