A Northwest woman was shot death early Sunday morning, just as Pima County Sheriff’s deputies had arrived at her home to investigate a dispute.
About 4:45 a.m., deputies from the department’s Foothills District responded to a home on the 1000 block of West Sea Star Drive, near the intersection of North Oracle and West River roads. While talking with people at the front door, deputies heard gunshots.
The deputies rushed to an upstairs bedroom where they found 23-year-old Ashely Nicole Fimbrez dead from a single gunshot wound, according to sheriff’s department spokeswoman Dawn Barkman.
Deputies also found 30-year-old Roberto Gardea Ruiz wounded.
Investigators believe Ruiz shot Fimbrez and then turned the gun on himself, Barkman said.
Ruiz was transported to a hospital where he remained on Monday afternoon, Barkman said. She would not specify the extent or severity of his wounds.
No charges had been filed in the case as of Monday afternoon, Barkman said.
