The Greater Oro Valley Arts Council walked away with an accolade at the 2008 Lumies awards presentation last Sunday at The Fox Theater downtown.

The Tucson Pima Arts Council sponsors the annual event to honor local artists, art groups and patrons of the arts.

This year GOVAC claimed the prize for best established arts organization. The group beat out three other arts groups.

The award was given for the group’s excellence, innovation and creativity.

Some of GOVAC’s notable events include the annual Fourth of July celebration in Riverfront Park, an annual jazz party and numerous classroom events to promote art education.
