Oro Valley voters have again affirmed their support of the Local Alternative Expenditure Limitation, or "home rule."

Unofficial results posted Tuesday night by the Pima County Recorder's Office showed home rule approved by 5,888 voters, or 71.92 percent of those who participated in the Tuesday election. "No" votes were 2,299, or 28.08 percent.

With home rule, Oro Valley can set its own budget limit, rather than a limit imposed through state formula. Had it been defeated, Oro Valley would have had to make major reductions in its budget, officials said.

A total of 9,610 ballots had been counted in Oro Valley as of 8 p.m. Tuesday. That represents 36.6 percent of the town's 26,271 registered voters. On the home rule question, 1,423 electors did not cast a vote for or against.
