More than $5,000 worth of food has been gathered and donated to Interfaith Community Services by parishioners of St. Odilia Catholic Church in Oro Valley.

The emergency food drive was initiated by Knights of Columbus Council 6933. It resulted in an "amazing wall of food," a release said, filling four large vehicles and one trailer.

The drive should provide about 500 sacks of non-perishable items to needy people through ICS, which reports greatly increased demand for assistance, the release said.

Knights had distributed empty sacks about two weeks before the May 2-3 collection. Parishioners gave an additional $165 in cash to help needy people in the Northwest.
