A new American Legion Post in the Northwest is looking for a few good men and women, as well as veterans who ride motorcycles.

American Legion Post 132 received its official charter in April. The post already has a membership of 103 veterans, with military service ranging from World War II to the present conflicts.

The post, commanded by John Corado, a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army, is "reaching out to all veterans and their wives to join the local post and support the military," a release said. It holds its monthly meetings at the Catalina Elks Lodge, located at 16045 N. Oracle in Catalina. Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Interested veterans and their spouses are invited to attend.

"In addition to doing good work in support of the military, members have a good time networking with others of a like mind," a release said.

The American Legion is the largest veteran's service organization in the world, with more than 2.5 million members.

Post #132 stands for the "four pillars" of the American Legion:

• Veterans affairs and rehabilitation;

• National security;

• Americanism;

• and children and youth.

Post 132 is in the early stage of starting a women's auxiliary unit. It also has plans to start a Legion Rider's Club for ex-veterans who are motorcycle enthusiasts. American Legion Riders chapters are well-known for their charitable work, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children's hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded service members and scholarships.

All eligible veterans, spouses and motorcycle riders in Oro Valley, SaddleBrooke, Catalina and the surrounding communities may contact the American Legion Post #132 recruiter, Fred MacKenzie at 818-3806, or by e-mail at eboy6582@cs.com
