The long-anticipated debate between candidates for State Senate in Legislative District 26 happened Thursday, Oct. 14.

Republican incumbent Al Melvin and Democratic challenger Cheryl Cage faced off at BASIS Charter School in Oro Valley before an over-capacity crowd near 300 people.

Explorer Publisher and Editor Dave Perry arranged and moderated the debate, which saw candidates contrast their positions on education funding, taxes, border security and the state’s increasingly troubled budget.
