Pima County has appointed a new director to the Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department.

Following a nationwide search, Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry appointed Jackson Jenkins to head the department.

Jenkins will fill the position being vacated by Michael Gritzuk.

He worked for more than 20 years in the mining industry before joining Pima County in 2004 as deputy director of the wastewater department.

Jenkins holds a master’s degree in business administration from Western New Mexico University and a bachelor’s of science in engineering from the University of Arizona.

He also holds the highest-level state certification in wastewater collection, wastewater treatment, water treatment and water distribution.

Gritzuk intends to continue to work part-time to facilitate the progression of the Regional Optimization Master Plan (ROMP) Program, a mandated upgrade program required by state and federal regulations.
