One-way Sun Shuttle fares are increasing from $1 to $1.25 on Saturday, and schedule changes with additional bus service in Oro Valley and Marana are taking effect on Monday, Aug. 10, according to a release from the Regional Transportation Authority.

The Sun Shuttle increase will "mirror Sun Tran's new one-way cash fare," the release said. The city of Tucson has decided to raise Sun Tran fares.

On Aug. 10, excess travel time on Sun Shuttle routes is being reallocated, "providing passengers with more frequent service on most routes," the release said.

Routes 401 and 402 serving Oro Valley/Catalina, and Routes 411 and 412 serving Marana, are providing additional trips on weekdays and Saturdays. "Schedules will change accordingly," the release said. Routes are being adjusted in Green Valley and Sahuarita as well.

To encourage regional transit use and to provide more convenient connections, Sun Shuttle now honors valid Sun Tran transfers and valid Sun Tran passes: Full Fare, Economy, Express and Aero Park Monthly; Day Pass, Quarterly, Annual, U-Pass or Pima Community College Pass.

"These changes were made to better meet the transit needs of our passengers in these communities," said Gary Hayes, RTA executive director. "Sun Shuttle customers have requested more frequent service, shorter trips and better connections to Sun Tran's service, and we're able to do that with our existing resources.  We strive to provide a convenient service that enhances connectivity throughout our region."

Sun Shuttle deviated service is increasing proportionately to $2.50. Deviated service is available to passengers who meet the Americans with Disabilities Act eligibility requirement, allowing them to schedule a pick-up or drop-off within 3/4-mile of Sun Shuttle routes.

For Sun Shuttle customers paying the cash fare, a Sun Shuttle Connection pass is available to transfer to Sun Tran, Sun Express or Aero Park routes. Passengers should request this pass from the Sun Shuttle driver. With the Sun Shuttle Connection pass, there is no charge when transferring to Sun Tran Routes 1 through 99, a  25-cent surcharge is required when connecting to Sun Express Routes 101X through 110X and 312X, and a 75-cent surcharge is required to board Aero Park Routes 201X through 203X.

"Sun Tran passengers have the convenience of connecting to Sun Shuttle's service, and vice versa," said Katrina Heineking, general manager of Sun Tran. "Many Sun Tran pass products are good for unlimited rides on Sun Shuttle, providing greater access throughout our region at an affordable cost."

Brochures with new schedules will be available in early August. People may call Sun Tran's Customer Service Center at 792-9222 (TDD: 628-1565) for more details.
