Nominations of people, businesses, former students and organizations that have made significant contribution to Pima Community College are needed by Jan. 31, according to the PCC Alumni Association and Foundation.
The college marks its 40th anniversary with a gala on April 24 at the Westin La Paloma.
Awards are being presented that day to recognize “the significant impact made by individuals, businesses and organizations on the college and our community,” a release said.
Former students “who have made significant contributions to their professions and / or communities” are also being celebrated.
Nomination forms are available at http://www.pima.edu/alumni">www.pima.edu/alumni.
Sponsoring businesses and organizations have the chance to honor an outstanding employee with a Best of Pima award, highlighting “the positive impact the employee has made and providing well-deserved public recognition,” the release continued.
Award categories are:
• Founder Award, to a community member who championed the vision of accessible education for southern Arizona during the 1960s, and worked to make Pima College a reality;
• Champion Award, to an individual or organization that has shared their passion, experience or resources in support of Pima College’s vision;
• Innovator Award, to an individual or business that influenced Pima’s development in an extraordinary way;
• Outstanding Alumni Award, to a former student who characterizes the college’s best hopes for the students it educates.
Funds raised by the 40th Anniversary Gala help students “achieve their educational goals by supporting areas that are not funded by government sources and tuition, such as scholarships, student leadership opportunities, classroom equipment, technological advances and faculty development,” the release said.
“As public funding decreases each year, the role of private philanthropy for Pima becomes more and more vital,” it continued.
