The Tucson commander of the American Legion has announced the opening of a new post in Oro Valley.

Army veteran John A. Corrado was named temporary commander of the post, which to date has 51 charter members.

American Legion officials said the new post intends to leave its charter rolls open until April 28 for new members to sign up.

Honorably discharged military veterans who served during wartime are eligible to join. The names of those who do join the new post before April 28 will go on the permanent charter membership roll.

The American Legion has nearly 15,000 posts around the world. It was founded in 1919, and today has more than 3 million members.
