Candidates for seats in the Arizona Legislature from districts that encompass the Northwest submitted their required paperwork to the secretary of state's office by the close of business May 26.

They now head to the primary election ballot on Aug. 24.

In District 26, taking in much of the area east of I-10 and north of River Road, Republican Sen. Al Melvin of SaddleBrooke faces the expected challenge of Democrat Cheryl Cage of Marana.

District 26 Democratic Rep. Nancy Young Wright has filed for re-election, along with Democrat William Wallace.

On the Republican side, Rep. Vic Williams has filed for a second term, along with Republicans Wade McLean and Terri Proud.

Winding, sprawling Legislative District 25 takes in much of populated Marana.

Democratic Sen. Manny Alvarez has filed for re-election, with Republicans Gail Griffin and Craig Smith.

On the House side, incumbent Democratic Rep. Pat Fleming is in the field, with Ken Davis and Ruben Ortega. Republican Rep. David Stevens is running, challenged in the primary by Peggy Judd.

All have filed required signatures.
