More than 47,000 ballots remain uncounted in Pima County as of Wednesday afternoon, and it could be several days before final election results are known.

“As of this morning, 270,707 ballots have been counted; as many as 47,420 remain to be counted,” Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry wrote in a memo to the Pima County Board of Supervisors, Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez and Elections Director Brad Nelson.

Voters delivered 25,300 early ballots to polling stations, and they remain to be counted and verified, Huckelberry wrote. Nearly 13,000 provisional ballots also need to be counted.

“It will likely be several days before all ballots are counted,” Huckelberry wrote.

The county administrator noted the elections department can count 30,000 ballots per day, but the process of verifying them through the recorder’s office would take additional time.

Meanwhile, both of Southern Arizona’s seats in the U.S. House of Representatives remain up for grabs.

Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva claimed victory Tuesday night in District 7, with Republican challenger Ruth McClung trailing by 3,700 votes.

Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, CD8, refrained from claiming victory over Republican Jesse Kelly. A margin of slightly more than 2,400 votes separates the contestants in that race.

The three-way race for Arizona House in Distric 26 also awaits the count.

Republican newcomer Terri Proud led the field for two seats with 34,891 votes, 34.71 percent of those cast. Republican incumbent Rep. Vic Williams trailed with 33,160 votes, 32.99 percent. Democratic incumbent Rep. Nancy Young Wright lagged behind with 32,284 votes, 32.12 percent.
