On Wednesday night, the League of Women Voters hosted a debate for the two open seats on the Amphitheater Unified School District Governing Board at the Nanini Library.

The three candidates seeking election are incumbent and current board president Jeff Grant and newcomers Scott Leska and Susan Zibrat.

About 40 people attended the debate where the candidates were asked two questions by the moderator and then took questions from the people in the audience.

Questions ranged from how they plan to work in a district with an increasingly declining budget to their thoughts on religion in the classroom.

Candidates were asked if they supported the recent Prop. 100, a proposition to raise the sales tax one percent, which voters passed earlier this year. They were also asked their views of open enrollment, charter schools, and their view on tuition tax credits for private school tuition.
