Dispose a med
Oro Valley School Resource Officer Shawn Benjamin empties unused prescription pills at the Dispose-A-Med event held last year. The next medication collection event in Oro Valley is this Saturday, Feb. 26. The service is open to everyone, not just Oro Valley residents. J.D. Fitzgerald/ Special to the Explorer

Area residents are invited to clean out their medicine cabinets and bring their unused and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications to this Saturday’s Dispose-A-Med event. It is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Target store, 10555 N. Oracle Road, near First Avenue.

The Oro Valley Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, SOBER Project, Meth Free Alliance, Oro Valley Optimist Club, Golder Ranch Fire District and Pima County Wastewater, offers this opportunity to safely dispose of the unwanted medications.

Student pharmacists from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, will be available to review and answer citizens’ questions about their medications, and conduct free blood pressure checks.

In addition, organizers will provide information about prescription drug safety and how to properly dispose of narcotics and other harmful drugs.

For more information, call Sgt. Amy Sloane at 229-5080 or Officer Shawn Benjamin at 696-5577.
