Almost five weeks after being hit by a SUV at 60 MPH in Utah, Dallin Wengert a former Marana High School student, went home for the first time this week since the horrific accident.

Dallin and his wife, Amy, live in Utah where Dallin was planning on attending college in order to become a veterinarian. Those plans changed when Dallin was hit by an SUV on May 30. After receiving medical attention in Utah, Dallin was sent to Phoenix, Ariz., on June 14, in order to receive more extensive care.

Ever since then Dallin has been doing therapy and receiving care at the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital. On Monday, Dallin was able to return home and will be in the care of his family for a week. There he will do speech therapy as well as physical therapy by swimming daily.  On Monday, June 15 he will return to St. Joseph’s Hospital and receive more advanced therapeutic treatment.

“The advanced treatment will help the brain find new paths so that the damaged ones are not blocking,” said Laura Wengert, mother of Dallin. “We have huge hopes that he will recover in this next year and be able to go back to veterinary school.”
