A Tucson man believed to have struck a pedestrian with his truck, left the scene of the crime and then returned claiming to be a witness to the event has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to a report released this afternoon by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), a Ford pickup truck driven by Quinn W. Bishop, 31, from Tucson, allegedly struck a 25-year-old pedestrian who was crossing Oracle Road just south of Roller Coaster Road around 3:30 this morning.

Investigating officers at the scene believe that Bishop left the scene, parked, and then returned to the scene and acted as if he were a witness to the collision, the DPS report said. Witnesses to the collision identified Bishop as the driver of the pickup.

During the course of the investigation, Bishop was arrested for driving while under the influence. He was taken to the Highway Patrol Headquarters, where he was offered tests. He was then taken to the Pima County Jail, where he was booked for aggravated assault. Further charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Crews from Pima County Sheriff's Department, Northwest Fire District and DPS responded to the collision report around 3:40 a.m. Crews arrived and found the 25-year-old male who was suffering life-threatening head injuries as a result of being struck by a vehicle.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was transported to University Medical Center's Trauma unit in critical condition. Updates on the patient's condition will be released as they become available.

Northwest Fire reminds drivers that schools are back in session and that the amount of pedestrian traffic has increased. Drivers should be aware of potential pedestrians at all times, especially around school zones and bus stops.
