The  DeGrazia Elementarry School Chess team battled 30 schools statewide to win fifth place at the Arizona State Chess Competition.

The competition was held on April 21 at Mesquite Jr. High School in Gilbert.

The DeGrazia team consists of Nghishawn Nguyen, Jannessa Inthisone, Ben Campbell, Quinton Nickum, Tyler Hedrick, Talin Chambers, Caleb Wilcox, and Hunter Holt.

The eight-member team battled in competition for two days for students between kindergarten and sixth grade.
