Tucson Values Teachers and OfficeMax have partnered to shine a spotlight on individual teachers who bring that extra something special into the classroom.  Tucson Values Teachers presented their May 2014 Teacher Excellence Award to Mellodie Stratman, special education teacher at Coyote Trail Elementary School in the Marana Unified School District. Ms. Stratman received the award, a $100 gift card from OfficeMax, and a Ben’s Bell.

Mellodie Stratman has been employed with the Marana Unified School District since August 1997.

Ms. Stratman was nominated by a colleague who wrote in the nomination, “Mellodie has been a big support in the Special Education program in MUSD and Coyote Trail. Mel is always thinking outside the box and using many resources for ideas and projects for students in the classroom. Mel is a dedicated teacher and co-worker. Mel has such a 'Big Heart' for her students and others. Mel has been working on a playground project for our Special Education students and is always coming up with fundraiser ideas for the playground, as well as supplies. Mel is very passionate about getting this playground finished for the next school year. She will have the biggest smile when her students see this project for their own eyes. Not only does Mel support our students, she always supports her staff as well. She listens to every idea brought to the table, and tries to incorporate them into our routine. Mel is a dedicated teacher and an inspiration to all the staff at Coyote Trail”

OfficeMax and Tucson Values Teachers are pleased to honor teachers for the extraordinary level of excellence and commitment they demonstrate every day in the classroom. Each month, a K-12 teacher in southern Arizona is selected by Tucson Values Teachers board of directors to win the TVT Teacher Excellence Award sponsored by OfficeMax. Winners receive a $100 gift certificate from OfficeMax, a festive surprise presentation and are featured on the Tucson Values Teachers website.
